I think I can guess the answer, but is there any way to enable the coasting behaviour whilst in Comfort mode? I have my doubts that anything else in Eco mode really impacts on mpg, but coasting in any mode would be the biggest factor.

Nope.. But you can just set up a new individual driving mode. Set the engine to be eco, and everything else either normal or dynamic.

What exactly does the «coasting» feature do to improve mpg, that doing exactly the same thing (taking your foot off going downhill) in comfort mode doesn’t?
Think I need to do some research on the Eco speedometer, like why does the needle go right over to the right of the dial when you brake?

Free-wheel function Eco Coast
The freewheel function Eco Coast means in practice that engine braking ceases, meaning in turn that the car’s kinetic energy is used to freewheel for longer distances. When the driver releases the accelerator pedal the gearbox is automatically disengaged from the engine whose speed is reduced to idling speed with reduced consumption.
The function is best used where it is possible to freewheel a long way, e.g. roads with a slight downhill gradient or when there is a predictable speed reduction to freewheel into a zone with a lower speed limit.

Does it engine brake normally? I am pretty sure I’ve only ever felt this in Dynamic, maybe I’m not sensitive enough to discern it doing it in other drive modes.
I find the XC40 excellent at free-wheeling, I’m always having to brake when going down even a slight gradient because I’m catching up with the cars ahead (who aren’t even braking) and I drive in Comfort all the time.

To use engine breaking, you need to use the paddles (if you have RD trim) or go to manual and downshift. i tend to hit the paddle and get the car in 1st gear at about 2.5-3k revs on specific traffic queue slopes, and it breaks ok.

Remember that unless the cars in front are SUVs too, you probably weight a good tonne more than them, so makes sense to catch more speed
ЭКО-РЕЖИМ
Коллеги, всем доброго времени суток.Есть вопросец, кто-нибудь проводил замеры расхода топлива в эко-режиме и режиме обычного движения.Понимаю, что много зависит от того как топчется педалька газа, тем не менее .
Почему возник вопрос?Дело в том, что почти каждые выходные езжу по м-11, почти всегда на эко, а тут супруга села за руль, и видимо не переключила, оказалось, что расход топлива почти такой же, что и в эко режиме.Вот и озаботился вопросом.Или супруга педалирует акуратно(спал всю дорогу, не мог оценить)или разницы нет, или почти нет.Уж больно на эко машинка «вареная».
За ранее спасибо за ответ.

Я разницы не чувствую, ровно как и мой кошелёк)
Если просто ехать по трассе, прямо с постоянной скоростью, то разницы не будет. Фишка этого эко режима — он придушивает газ, на педали и круиз. То есть основная экономия на плавном разгоне, а потому уже coasting и кандей. Я эко включаю, даже, не из за экономии, а что бы адаптивный круиз не отрабатовал каждое изменение скорости впереди идущей машины, а делал плавные разгоны и так же не тормозил бы рабочим тормозом, а скидывал скорость с помощью ДВС, по моему это повышает комфортность езды по трассе.
Шляпа все эти режимы, реальная экономия будет, только если эко-режим в своей голове включить )
Езжу по одним и тем же маршрутам на супертехнологичном V90 и древней чугуневой XC70, машины одного класса и назначения. Только в одной эко-режим, старт-стоп, электропомпа, умный термостат и куча прочих типа эко-штучек. А в другой, руль, педали и рычаг КПП, древний движок 2,5 литра с турбиной и 15 лет непростой жизни в Сибири . Разницы в расходе практически нет. А мелкий бак и постоянно включаемый старт-стоп — есть и они бесят. Извините накипело 🙂
Супруга у меня тоже на дизеле ХС-70 15 г рождения, но там реально экономичная машина, но и сил прилично меньше, 180 кажется, ну и дизель.По трассе 8 чистых литров, супруга не спешит, турбину гонять .
ага, у моей жены тоже D4 только XC60, да, дизель процентов на 30 точно экономичней, но это уже другая тема. А я лишь обратил внимание, что несмотря на 15 лет разницы и все новые технологии, расход у бензиновых Вольво не поменялся. А коли так, то стоила ли овчинка выделки? Оставили бы старый добрый 2,5 с ресурсом в полмиллиона километров, я был бы счастлив )
а вообще нас всех цинично все время наобманывают.
на каждом новом поколении вылазит на трибуну во время презентации или в обзоре очередной уполномоченный хрен и начинает чесать как моторы стали еще более экономичны и коробки прямо тоже этому помогают и быстрые становятся машины — прямо как ветер.
только они все ссвистят. Свистят грубо и цинично.
жрет этот автомобиль в среднестатистической Москве или Питере литров 13-15 если особенно на тапку Не давить.
а все это потому что они усрались в свою экномию и поставили на тяжелый сарай сраные перераздутые 2 литра.
вот ведь странно, а чего ж это он так жрет то? а?

Не помню склько там по паспорту оно хавает бензиновое, но осиновык кол тому шведо-китайцу который там в очередной раз неправду для оболваненных пользователей написал.

Если отбросить лирику и маркетинг, то в чём сомнения в тренде на более экологичные авто?
У меня прошлый авто был образца 2007, атмосферник 1.6, 125 л.с. до сотни секунд за 13-15 (по паспорту 12), кушал 8 на трассе, 10-11 в городе летом.
Сейчас авто образца 2017 года, 2.0 турбо, 250 л.с., до сотни секунд 8 (по паспорту 7), кушает 9 на трассе, 11-12 в городе летом.
У жены авто образца 2013 года, 1.4 турбо, 125 л.с., до сотни секунд 11 (по паспорту 9), кушает 6 на трассе, 9 в городе.
Как по мне, тренд очевиден.

If you have one of Volvo’s Drive-E engines, you have our ECO technology! This includes Auto Start/Stop, ECO-coast, and ECO-climate. ECO-coast operates at speeds over 31 mph (50 km/h). When you release the accelerator pedal, the transmission disengages and the engine speed drops to idle which eliminates the engine braking. This lets the car maintain its momentum by coasting at its current speed and reduces the amount of fuel being used.
When the car is in ECO mode certain functions of the climate system will also be altered. For example, air conditioning or blower speeds may be temporarily reduced or deactivated to help reduce the amount of fuel that is consumed. To reengage the air conditioner, just press the AC button.
To disengage ECO mode, simply press the ECO button on the center console.

Only had my car a month, noticed the Eco+ button today and realised it had never been on.
Pleasantly surprised how the gearbox ‘coasts’ along when throttle released, when gently cruising along an undulating road I found myself barely using the throttle to keep around 50 — 55mph with car almost silently wafting along -amazing!
How many of you have Eco+ on? What are the negatives I wonder?

Negatives. no engine braking approaching junctions etc

That’s kind of strange considering the agreed way to save fuel is to lift and coast and use engine braking as modern ECU’s cut the fuel on over run and use the natural compression to brake.
There is a official Volvo video currently saying to use lift and coast for the above reasons.

I do not use my Eco+ as it switches off the Auto A/C.
Where I live, without Auto A/C my windows mist up.

Need to test it a bit more and form a conclusion.
Just got back from dads taxi duties for my teenager, and it seems that you have to re-select it each time you drive? (Or is there a my car setting to select as default?)
tem: correct in that it turns aircon off, but you can select Eco+ then turn air con back on again after. Bit of a faf though.
Pesky: so higher wear on discs and pads, great. Of course in «super relaxed Eco mindset driving mode», one should be anticipating so far ahead you hardly need your brakes?
Tomorrow I’ll see what happens when Eco+ is combined with sport mode, one would think however that the two options are not compatible!

Advantages. and disadvantages
Slightly better fuel economy — mildly
Better for gentle driving in traffic — changes earlier and numbs throttle
Allows car to roll for mile after mile
Great for relaxed towing of heavy loads
More relaxed when lugging the family around
Annoying stop start in traffic — takes lots of getting used to
Profound difference when moving in and out of sport mode for those ‘positive’ overtakes
Use it most days on the 20 mile commute, and often when on the motorway.

Positively horrible actually the stop / start on auto Gearboxes , first thing i do is press the OFF button .. It is most disconcerting when you have to stop briefly to allow something to pass before you pull out , it certainly increases your reaction time and the car’s mechanical reaction time by an amount to make a difference in the safety of the event .
Stop / Start on Auto boxes also encourages you to sit there with your foot on the brake for long periods , a pet hate of mine when i am behind a car , and is the wrong thing to do if you are stopped for more than a few seconds .
How i would improve it would be to ensure it only activated when the parking brake was ON ..
How do other manufactures do it with auto Gearboxes ?
