The car stereo doesn’t recognize the USB storage device or an error displays when attempting to play music

Follow these steps to resolve the issue on your car stereo, checking for resolution after each step. Not all car stereo receivers have USB capabilities, so check your manual for model-specific information. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

  • If the device isn’t recognized, remove the USB device and then re-insert it.
  • Check the firmware version of your car stereo and update it as necessary. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
  • If your car stereo has two USB ports, make sure to use the port that matches your USB drive’s file specifications
  • Ensure your device is set to the required USB mode before connecting it to the car stereo.
    • Some USB devices need to be in a specific mode (such as a Mass Storage Class or Player mode, etc.) before you can use the USB device for playback.
      • Check the specifications of the USB device or contact the manufacturer for information.
      • If a USB device is connected:
        1. Disconnect the USB device from the car stereo and wait for approximately one minute.
        2. Reconnect the USB device to the car stereo.
      • If there’s no USB device connected:
        1. Turn the power off on the car stereo and wait for approximately one minute.
        2. Turn on the car stereo.

Note: If you have the RSX-GS9:

      • Check the system requirements of the USB device and check whether the USB device is operating properly.
      • Check that the root directory of the USB device contains a Music folder and that the folder contains playable music files (excluding iPhone® mobile devices and iPod® digital music players).
      • Check if the names of music files include special characters.

How to resolve when inserting USB device «No Support/Not Supported» message is displayed and the music is not played back?

When inserting USB device No Support/Not Supported message is displayed and the music is not played back.
Check whether the USB device is the supported model. In addition, the connection error might have occurred because the USB device is not connected to the unit properly. Disconnect the USB device once and connect it to the unit again.

Even though you have tried the above measures but the problem still exists, check whether the USB device is operating properly.

Error: NO SUPRT or —:— is displayed when a USB device is connected to the car stereo.

NOTE: Not all car stereos have a USB port. To verify whether your car stereo has a USB port where external devices can be connected, check the specifications.

When the NO SUPRT or —:— error message appears in the display of the car stereo and the music playback stops, unplug the USB device, wait approximately one minute, then plug the device back in again.
Doing this will reset the USB connection and should correct any issue that may have occurred when you first connected the USB device.

If this does not work, disconnect the USB device and power it off. Turn the USB device back on and then reconnect it to the car stereo.

If the error message still shows in the display, either your USB device is not a supported model or the USB device does not have updated firmware. Only USB devices that are compatible and have the most current firmware are supported. You may want to contact the USB device manufacturer to verify that your unit has the latest firmware installed. Refer to the operating instructions of the car stereo for the list of compatible USB devices.

If the USB Reading message that is displayed on the screen does not go away in a few seconds, do the following:

      1. Disconnect and reconnect the USB device and switch back to the USB source.
      2. Connect the device to the USB port with a different USB cable.
NOTE: Do not use an extension cable.
      3. Connect another USB device to the USB port.
NOTE: If that device connects there is a problem with the other USB device.
      4. Reset the USB device that was connected.
      5. Completely disconnect the power of the head unit from the car.
NOTE: Wait a few seconds and reconnect. If there is still a problem, service is required.
